“It is entertainment but not social…”
Being social on Social Media
A couple of years ago, before I started to read into how to grow your engagement on social media, I only used Facebook, Twitter and later Instagram to get my thoughts, my stories, my experiences out into the world.
Oh well… at least I thought I did. What actually happened, most of the time I was posting things like; ‘Look how much fun I’m having with my friends this weekend!’. And I wasn’t the only one.
I wasted a loooootttt of time scrolling down the timelines of my family, friends, classmates, colleagues and other fellow social media users and read all the happy posts that they posted. That was it, just reading, and maybe giving it a thumbs up. It was entertainment but not social.

When going to Art school, there was a general negative opinion about social media. People hated the ‘one way’ of communication and were struggling whether to delete their Facebook accounts and go totally offline or not.
Of course, that kind of people exists and still do, but I’ve come to realize that social media platforms like Facebook or Instagram can be waaaaaayyy more than that! BUT it’s entirely up to you how you use it!

There’s this whole community of people that are really connecting and supportive to each other! And as it turns out, there is a community for every interest, niche, profession, opinion, statement etcetera etcetera.
If you don’t like the way how some people use the platforms and you get reeeaally bored of all the #foodselfies, know that there’s this whole other world of Instagram with people that definitely post things that you’ll like and think is interesting! You just have to look it up and connect.
